Wino Wednesday – Ancient Roots Red Blend

TheReturn_EditWino Wednesday is back! Today I’m pairing Ancient Roots Red Blend with Jennifer L. Armentrout’s wonderful Titan novel, The Return.

This California red blend features strong flavors of dark cherry and vanilla with a nice chocolately aroma. With a $7.99 price tag, Ancient Roots Red Blend is what I like to call a very yummy “everyday wine.” Not too fancy, not too blah, just the right amount of kick to it for girls’ night in!

I’ve been scouring the wine section in every store I found myself, in order to find the perfect pair for Armentrout’s The Return, the first book in the Titan series which is a spin-off of her Covenant series. I thought Seth’s reappearance in the world of paranormal new adult romance deserved a wine for celebration. Since this book features Greek gods, I thought Ancient Roots would be a fitting wine because Seth himself has ancient roots. And he’s hot. Like super hot. If you don’t believe me, then see what leading lady Josie has to say about it…

“What are you?” she asked, her nose scrunching as she spoke. “Other than a heart-stopping hot guy with obvious boundary issues and problems with anger management?”

I blinked at her. She thought I was a heart-stopping hot guy? Well, of course she did.

So in celebration of Seth’s return, grab yourself a bottle of Ancient Roots Red Blend and a copy of The Return. You will be in Greek god bliss before you know it!

Happy reading and happy drinking, my friends! ❤

Book Description

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Review

Yay! Seth is back! In preparation for The Return, I reread the entire Covenant Series. I’m really happy that I did because a handful of the main characters show up in The Return and Seth’s behavior is a direct result of what happened in that series. Technically, I guess you could read this book without reading that series. There is a point in the book where the events that took place are recapped, but it barely skimmed the surface of what Seth thought and felt. It was more just a play-by-play from an outsider. So I would suggest reading the Covenant series before delving into this book. You will appreciate it so much more!

So Seth. The sexy Apollyon with a bad rep finally gets a story of his own! I always liked his character for his snark, disregard for authority, cockiness, and overall hotness. Yes, at times I totally hated him right along with Alex and Aiden, but he definitely grows on you!

Seth in The Return is a changed half-blood. His outlook on life is pretty bleak as he hunts down those who sided with Ares. The only thing he looks forward to is his death, but then he’ll be a slave to Hades. So really there is nothing left to live or die for. When he’s charged with watching over a mortal girl, his world is tossed into utter chaos and not just because there are Titans gunning for her. His first glimpse of Josie shows him that there may just be a salvation for him after all.

“I wanted what I’d never had. Real companionship. Loyalty. Friendship. Her. Me. No third parties. Just us. A future. A tomorrow. Salvation. And that made my f*cking chest compress, because I didn’t even know what to do with all of that. ”

The Return, Jennifer L. Armentrout, p.249

As always, Jennifer L Armentrout, is able to thrust me into the world of Greek gods, Apollyons, pure and half bloods with only a handful of words. It’s true writing genius to find myself so immersed in a supernatural world that it seems totally plausible. Her characters are quirky, unique, and realistic with a dash of the mystical.

I’m so glad Armentrout decided to continue with another series set in the Covenant world. The Titan series is giving us a chance to see Seth as something other than the Apollyon, but as…just Seth. A guy with a shitty past, hard present, and harsh future who gave up everything to try and make up for his mistakes. Even though it seems like history is repeating itself, I think this is Seth’s time to be the hero instead of the villain.

This was a steady-paced new adult supernatural story surrounding Greek gods, Titans, and all those in between. This book is definitely steamier than the Covenant series. If you were like me and a little disappointed in Alex and Aiden’s lack of detailed lovin’, you will be oh so happy that Seth does not hold back! You may need a glass of water to cool yourselves off after reading this one!

You may ask yourself how anyone could compete with the awesomeness that was Alex from the Covenant series. Well Armentrout doesn’t disappoint with her leading lady, Josie. She’s much more relatable as she’s a mortal just like us, or so she seems. She knows nothing of this other world and you will get a lesson in the history right along with her. Her banter with Seth is reminiscent of what he shared with Alex, but with a wave of sexual attraction that they had lacked. She knocks him right off his feet causing him to forget his past transgressions and wish to be worthy of just one taste of her.

This is a book and a series not to be missed! I don’t know how else to say it beyond, “Read this book now, people!”
